When playing for the first few couple of minutes, MapleStory will shut down without warning. This is caused by being disconnected from the server.

The specific cause of the disconnect is unknown, but some layers have found that performing the following actions have resolved the issue (sometimes only temporarily).

Winsock reset & flush DNS[]

This solution only works for Windows Vista and up

A suggested solution

For Windows XP:

  1. Press "Windows Key" & R The Run box should now appear
  2. Type "cmd.exe" in the box and click "OK" The command prompt window should now appear
  3. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  4. Then type "netsh winsock reset" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  5. Reboot your PC.

For Windows Vista / 7 / 8:

  1. In the start menu search bar, type "cmd" "cmd.exe" should be one of the first things on the list to appear.
  2. Right Click "cmd.exe" and select "Run as administrator" The command prompt window should now appear with administrator privledges
  3. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  4. Then type "netsh winsock reset" and press "Enter" on your keyboard
  5. Reboot your PC.

If you received a permission error, you did not do step 2 correctly.
